How to Get Things Done for Families

Iowa students share how they avoid distractions during online learning

Support your student in working and in taking breaks. Breaks are ok and healthy, especially if the content is difficult. Talk to your student about when/if they want you to check in with them, to help keep them on track.

Some students need help to think through planning their work. Do they like to get started on something easy to get on a roll, or do the hard stuff first and get it out of the way? Do they need to take care of basic needs with food and rest BEFORE work, or do they tend to put things off too long? Use a resource like these steps to improve skills to have a conversation with your student.
