Course Description

The ILC World History - Full year materials are designed as a full-year course course. Semester 1 and Semester 2 will be available separately for download. The course materials utilize content from World History OER Project, as well as original developer content. Students will explore the transformations that created our modern world. Students will learn how to use stories about our connected human past to orient themselves to their present and prepare for the future. Students will begin in the 14th century, examining the world before the first global age. In the following units, students will examine the major processes that have created the modern world. In the period 1450-1750, students will focus on the growing web of connections that increasingly bound the world together. Students will then move into the 19th century which saw even more revolutionary change to the fundamental institutions of government and economic structures. For the units in the 20th century, students will examine the world at war and the effects of the Cold War and decolonization. Throughout the course, students will read, source, contextualize and corroborate historical evidence. They will evaluate historical interpretations, engage in causal and consequential reasoning, compare historical developments, assess continuity and change, and test and make claims regarding compelling historical questions.
