Course Description

In this course, learners continue their introduction to Spanish with fundamental building blocks in four key areas of world language study: listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing, preparing them for a wide range of basic interactions with people, places, and things in their new language environment.

In the first semester of this course, students will add vocabulary related to: parts of the body, habits and daily routine, parts of a car, safe driving, places around the city, illness and health. Students will work with present progressive verbs, regular and irregular verbs, reflective verbs, reflective pronouns, use adverbs of time, use tener + que and acabar + de correctly, Understand the difference between por and para and use the appropriate preposition for the context.

In the second semester of this course, students will add vocabulary related to shopping, chores and responsibilities, travel, childhood, music, games, and toys. Students will work with regular preterite tense verbs, irregular verbs preterite tense, Tocar vs. jugar, imperfect - regular and irregular verbs, superlatives, isimo / isima with adjectives.

These instructional materials were built with the ACTFL World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages in mind. Curriculum leaders and teachers should review these instructional materials to ensure full implementation of relevant standards. Each module identifies standards that are addressed and assessed, and this course creates a year-long curriculum when combined with ILC High School Spanish II - 1st Semester and ILC High School Spanish II - 2nd Semester.
Prerequisites

High School Spanish I unless students have prior Spanish-speaking experience.
