Course Description
This module supports the concepts taught in ILC ELA 4: Module 2 Researching to Build Knowledge and Teach Others - Animal Defense Mechanisms. Unit 1, students will begin by building background knowledge on animal defense mechanisms using an Animal Defenses research notebook to record notes and synthesize new information. Students will practice reading and writing fluency as well as learn about affixes and use the Frayer Model to take a closer look at academic language. Unit 2, students will continue their work with modal auxiliaries and how they change the meaning of a sentence. Students will explore text features and continue their work with the Frayer Model as well as affixes. Students will keep researching their animals and reading their independent text. Unit 3, students will work on reading and writing fluency. They will learn more about dialogue tags, dialogue usage, and purpose. Students will learn about sensory details, transitional language, and showing versus telling, all in preparation to become great writers. Students will continue learning about academic language using the Frayer Model and affixes. Note: The ALL Bock module is an integral part of the program to ensure all standards are addressed; therefore, it should be downloaded with the corresponding content module.
