ILC ELA 4: Module 1 Additional Language and Literacy (ALL) Block

This module supports the concepts taught in ILC ELA 4: Module 1 Poetry, Poets, and Becoming Writers. In this Module, students will explore the following concepts: In Unit 1, students will learn what the ALL Block is and explore poems, poetry, and figurative language. Students will also explore more about the process of writing poetry and how figurative language can change the meaning of the text being read or written. In Unit 2, students will practice reading, focusing on self-correcting. Students will read research texts (related to the topic of poetry and poets) and free-choice texts (on any topic of their interest). Students will log your reading, respond to reading prompts, record new vocabulary words in their reading journal/vocabulary log, and share their learning from reading in a group discussion. Students will be introduced to writing fluency and stamina. In Unit 3, Students will read the poem "Breathing Fire" and be introduced to similes. Students will read and analyze particular similes from the poem and learn how similes, in general, contribute to their understanding of a poem's overall meaning and tone. Note: The ALL Bock module is an integral part of the program to ensure all standards are addressed; therefore, it should be downloaded with the corresponding content module.
