Course Description

This module supports the concepts taught in ELA 3: Module 2 Researching to Build Knowledge and Teach Others - Adaptations and the Wide World of Frogs. In this Module, students will explore the following concepts: In Unit 1, students will work on reading and speaking fluency using an allocated narrative fluency passage. Students will strengthen their comprehension skills and deepen their understanding by analyzing the main character in a complex text. Students will analyze, write, and revise a poem inspired by “The Red-Eyed Tree Frog” from Lizards, Frogs, and Polliwogs by Douglas Florian. In Unit 2, students will work on forming and using regular and irregular verbs and simple verb tenses. Students will work with complex text by exploring the connection between the information essay “About the Bullfrog” and the narration of the body of the text. Students will learn the criteria for effective focus statements and apply what they have learned by writing their own focus statements based on the criteria. In Unit 3, students will work on reading and speaking fluency using an allocated narrative fluency passage. Students will discuss excerpts from complex text. They will analyze the relationships signaled by subordinating conjunctions in sentences from the excerpts. Students will write responses to writing prompts, practicing informational writing techniques presented in this module. Note: The ALL Bock module is an integral part of the program to ensure all standards are addressed; therefore, it should be downloaded with the corresponding content module.
