ILC Computer Science Principles - 1st Semester
The ILC Computer Science Principles - 1st Semester materials are designed as a semester-based course. Semester 1 and Semester 2 are available separately for download. The course materials utilize content from Code.org. The goal of this entry-level course is to provide students the knowledge and skills to meaningfully participate in our increasingly digital society, economy, and culture and introduces high school students to the foundations of modern computing. The course covers a broad range of foundational topics such as programming, algorithms, the Internet, big data, digital privacy and security, and the societal impacts of computing. A teacher account must be created on Code.org and verified. Verification gives teachers access to answer keys, project exemplars, and locked lessons. After creating the teacher account create a section and have students join so they can do the accompanying lesson puzzles and widgets. Teacher and student accounts are free. Through the study and creation of a variety of projects, activities, and programs, students build knowledge, create apps, analyze ideas, and develop collaboration, and communication skills. The units clearly identify standards that are addressed and assessed. The Code.org Computer Science Principles Curriculum Guide and Teacher Instructional Guide includes further details.
