Course Description
The ILC 7th Grade Science - Full Year course focuses on contemporary global issues. Students will build knowledge about these issues to cultivate diplomacy, effective citizenship, and global competitiveness. During the first semester, students will examine challenges facing the world community. Challenges such as hunger, population, conflict, global environmental challenges, human rights, poverty, energy scarcity, global health, education, immigration, globalization, and other political, economic, social, and ecological concerns. During the second semester, students will examine what forces bring order and disorder to the world and consider how what happened in the past shapes the decisions we make today. Students will then look at global economics and their role in global trade. Finally, students will look at the influence of the United States on other countries around the world. The course uses the Iowa’s Academic Standards to develop the content knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in this course.
Standards
The ILC 7th Grade Social Studies - Full Year materials are designed as a year-long course. Semester 1 and Semester 2 will be available separately for download. These instructional materials are available to assist educators in implementing Iowa’s Academic Standards. Curriculum leaders and teachers should review these instructional materials to ensure full implementation of Iowa’s Academic Standards in the local curriculum.
