Course Description
This is unit 2 of 9 units. The sequence of units is available in the Read Me First Materials in each unit.
- Section A: Size and Location of Fractions
In this section, students will revisit the meaning of fractions. They will use fraction strips, tape diagrams, and number lines to represent fractions. Students will compare fractions with the same numerators or the same denominators, and recall that equivalent fractions have the same size. - Section B: Equivalent Fractions
In this section, students will take a closer look at equivalent fractions and reason using number lines. Students will show that fractions that are at the same point on the number line are equivalent. - Section C: Fraction Comparison
In this section, students will compare fractions with different numerators and denominators using various strategies. Students will record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <. Students will solve problems that involve comparing fractional measurements, such as lengths in fractions of an inch.
