Course Description

This is unit 1 of 4 units. The sequence of units is available in the Read Me First Materials in each unit. Students will learn about how Westward Expansion impacted American Indians already living on this land, including the Meskwaki Tribe in Iowa. The unit closes by looking at conflict that arose during this time and how society changed when cultures collided. Topics covered in this unit include: the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark Expedition, Oregon Trail, Gold Rush, Trail of Tears, and many others.
