ILC 2nd Grade Social Studies: Transportation in Rural and Urban Spaces Unit

This is unit 1 of 4 units. The sequence of units is available in the Read Me First Materials in each unit. In second grade, students will learn about choices and consequences. They will engage in thinking and conversing about their own responsibility to take care of their community, focusing on cooperation and citizenship. They will also learn how the government plays a role in establishing and maintaining local community spaces. In this unit, students will explore transportation in rural areas in the past and present and also look at transportation in urban areas in the past and present. Using primary sources and secondary sources, students will be asked to make comparisons of the different time periods and then finish the unit by using what they have learned about transportation to predict what transportation may look like in the future.
