Course Description

This is unit 2 of 8 units. The sequence of units is available in the Read Me First Materials in each unit.

  • Section A: Add To/Take From Story Problems
    In this section, students revisit familiar story problem types. Students work formally with equations for the first time.
  • Section B: Put Together/Take Apart Problems
    In this section, students solve problems where two groups are put together. In some problems they find the total; in other problems the total is given, and they find the missing group.
  • Section C: Compare Story Problems
    In this section, students solve story problems where they find “how many more” or “how many fewer”.

These instructional materials are available to assist educators in implementing Iowa’s Academic Standards. Curriculum leaders and teachers should review these instructional materials to ensure full implementation of Iowa’s Academic Standards in the local curriculum. Each module identifies standards that are addressed and assessed.
